Autism: Kate Fox / Joanne Limburg

At Online

Description

Readings and discussion with two superb poets - Kate Fox and Joanne Limburg. Both are late-diagnosed autistic women, and they will read from their latest poetry collections and talk about how their autism has influenced their work, and how they’ve chosen to write about it since being diagnosed.

Kate Fox works mainly as a stand-up poet and as a broadcaster and speaker. She has published several pamphlets and collections, including ‘Vox Populi’ (Smokestack), ‘Chronotopia’ (Burning Eye), and most recently, ‘The Oscillations’ (Nine Arches). She is a familiar radio voice, having presented Pick of the Week on Radio 4 and been a regular contributor to Radio 3’s The Verb, among many other broadcasts. She’s also a gentle activist and campaigner for the voices of Northerners, the working class, women and the neurodiverse to be heard; mainly by teaching and running workshops in schools and community groups - and by speaking, writing, raising awareness and tutting at injustice and inequality.

Joanne Limburg has published two collections of poetry with Bloodaxe Books: ‘Feminismo’, which was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection, and ‘Paraphernalia’, a Poetry Book Society Recommendation. She has written one collection for children, ‘Bookside Down’, which was shortlisted for the CLPE Poetry Prize and Highly Commended. Her latest poetry collection is ‘The Autistic Alice’, also published by Bloodaxe. Her non-poetry book ‘The Woman Who Thought Too Much’, a memoir about OCD, anxiety and poetry, is published by Atlantic Books and her debut novel ‘A Want of Kindness’ was published in July 2015. A second memoir, ‘Small Pieces: A Book of Lamentations’, appeared in July 2017.
