Crosswords Open Mic

At Malt Cross

Description

Crosswords is a fab little spoken word open mic night that takes place in the caves underneath the Malt Cross Pub on St James’ Street. There are plenty of open mic slots and a featured poet every month! In July, our featured performer is the fantastic poet, performer, promoter and creative writing facilitator, Myriam San Marco!

As the Bournemouth Poet Laureate, Myriam has been leading a creative writing and development program for local writers with the support of Bournemouth Libraries. She founded Word Makers and Silence Breakers in 2016: a collection of wandering wordsmiths, vagabond verbalisers and rhyming rebels working as workshop facilitators, bards, fools and muses at local festivals and one-off events. Abe Gibson described her performance as cutting to draw blood. Myriam's debut collection, Sakura, was published by Burning Eye Books in June 2018.

Arrive at Crosswords from 7:15pm on the night to book your short open mic slot. We like poetry, prose, storytelling, a cappella singing, and monologues! Or you can just come along to listen – everyone's welcome! Entry is £2 per person and refreshments are available.

NB: there are over forty steps down to the caves, some of which are uneven and steep.
