Former head keeper of silver and metalwork at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Philippa Glanville discusses The Portland Collection silver.
Philippa Glanville is a leading authority on silver and the history of dining. This fascinating talk will explore exhibits from The Portland Collection, look at silver collections in the great English country houses and how they can reveal fascinating insights into food and dining from the past.
"I’m interested in how silver tableware, family papers and other objects can reveal fascinating insights into food and dining and lives lived long ago. Margaret Duchess of Portland not only collected recipes and taught the art of table laying, but also designed silver for serving her desserts".
This project is supported by the Art Fund and forms part of RA250 UK: Exhibitions and events around the UK to celebrate 250 years of the Royal Academy of Arts.
