Lara Wardle introduces the art from the exhibition, The Jerwood Collection: The Curator’s Choice.
In this talk, Lara will pick out some of her favourite pieces from the Jerwood Collection as well as talking about buying for, and looking after, this personal and public art collection.
Lara Wardle is the Director of the Jerwood Collection and has a love of 20th century British art, particularly the mid-century period. The art produced during this time is often domestic in scale and subject matter and can tell us about people’s lives: it references our recent history and our shared pasts. From L.S. Lowry’s industrial northern landscape to Maggi Hambling’s portrait of the elderly Frances Rose, the art held in Jerwood Collection offers us a glimpse of ourselves and the day-to-day.
