We’re flinging open our doors so you can find out all about the Playhouse. Take a peek behind the scenes, go backstage and meet our team, take part in workshops, listen to talks and learn more about all the hard work that goes into bringing our productions to life.

If you’re planning to see Skellig on 30 March, why not make a day of it and get involved with Skellig themed activities before the show.

There will be competitions, craft activities and plenty of family friendly options in the Playhouse Bar and Kitchen throughout the day.

The 1pm Story Explorers performance and the 2.30pm backstage tour will be BSL Interpreted. 
The 11am backstage tour will be wheelchair accessible

Drama Workshops 11am & 12pm – Ustinov
Get a taste of our Youth Theatre sessions by coming along to one of our free drama workshops. Run by our Participation team, these sessions will be Skellig themed – a perfect way for your child to discover theatre and awaken their creativity.

The 11am workshop will be suitable for ages 5-8.

The 12pm workshop will be suitable for ages 8-12

Each workshop will last for 45 minutes. We advise that participants wear comfy clothes and bring water with them.

Artistic Director talk and Q&A with Adam Penford 1.15pm – Sky Pod
Join Adam Penford for a Q&A about what it’s like to be the Artistic Director of Nottingham Playhouse, his highlights of his first year in the role, directing Mark Gatiss in The Madness of George III and returning to his home city after two decades away.

Career/ CV sessions 11am – 1.30pm – Mirror Pod
Need some career advice? Want some help with your CV? Or are you just curious about a particular area of theatre and fancy a chat with one of our friendly team members? Find out more in our 1-2-1 sessions with staff involved in all aspects of Nottingham Playhouse.

You can choose to meet technical and production, marketing and box office, fundraising or artist development staff as well as our Chief Executive, Stephanie Sirr.

There is only one slot per team member so book early to guarantee your 1-2-1

Career advice for actors and creatives with Adam Penford2.30pm – The Sky Pod
Calling actors and creatives! Need some career advice or general guidance? Who better to get it off then our Artistic Director Adam Penford? In this session Adam will answer your questions and give you some top tips on a career in the industry. Please bring your CV to this session.

Skellig Lighting and Sound Workshop 2pm – Main Auditorium
Get to see how we bring a show to life with lighting and sound. Our Lighting, Sound and AV team team will show you some of the techniques used throughout the production of Skellig.

Story Explorers in association with Inspire Libraries11am, 1pm & 3pm – Neville Studio
In association with Inspire Libraries.

Join us for a playful and interactive storytelling journey ‘Polar Adventures’

Through puppetry, music and sensory play Story Explorers will unleash your child’s imagination and take them on a magical and exciting adventure.

The 1pm performance will be BSL Interpreted by Ali Green

Suitable for ages 18 months – 5 years

SFX Make-up 12 – 3pm – Upper foyer
Special Effects Make-up artist, Jayne Hyman, demonstrates the art of SFXmake-up with you as the model. From bloodcurdling scars to blue and black bruises, what look will you go for?

Backstage tours Running every half an hour from 11am – 3pm
Take a look behind the scenes in a backstage tour. From Stage Door to the set on stage, you’ll be taken on a tour through our backstage departments, including Paintshop, props and wardrobe.

Tours are bookable on the day only at our Box Office counter and spaces are allocated on a first come first served basis.

The 11am tour will be wheelchair accessible and the 2.30pm tour will be BSL interpreted by Ali Green
