Surface Spotlight: Volunteer Show

At Surface Gallery

Surface Gallery is excited to present our annual volunteer show, Surface Spotlight, and an opening night featuring a diverse mix of art and original music.

Surface Spotlight features an eclectic mix of artistic practices from our talented group of volunteers. Boultbee’s multi-media work explores feelings of being lost in society, while Sheppard’s installation reveals his perception of Nottingham. Rubel’s playful approach to collage presents birds in unexpected ways, while Upton paints nostalgic scenes that oscillate between dream and reality. In contrast to Eadon’s series of delicate line drawings, Canning’s work invites you to take refuge in personal memory through copious layers of paint.

This year, the opening night also features performances from some very talented local musicians. The evening opens with The Sherwins, a Nottingham-based band from widely differing musical and cultural backgrounds, allowing for a unique variation and amalgamation of sound and style to evolve through each tune. Next up is Georgia’s Aunt, an acoustic duo reciting poetry, and hoping to inspire others to explore poetry for themselves. And to round off the evening we have My Mate's Band, a local support band that promote humanitarian causes and local charities, performing their own folky, punky, acoustic, original songs all with seven beats to the bar.

Surface Spotlight opens in the Main Gallery in conjunction with Sound Image in the Project Space. As always, there will be a donations bar with ales from local brewery, Pheasantry.
