2018 will be the opportunity for We Dig the Castle to do more....
We Dig the Castle - first held in 2015 - is Nottingham Castle's annual training excavation. Whether you're a total beginner or already have some experience in archaeology, We Dig the Castle is for anybody who would like to gain or develop fieldwork skills, be part of an archaeological project, or play a role in uncovering the history of Nottingham Castle and its surroundings.
We Dig the Castle will be even better than ever in 2018. While many of the most popular favourites from previous years are returning we're also adding an exciting new package of additional skills and activities. Even more importantly, we're expanding out of the Castle, with trainees carrying out archaeological work not only in Nottingham Castle's Outer Bailey but also around its gatehouse bridge and at historic Brewhouse Yard.
2018 offers We Dig the Castle trainees a brand new programme of test-pitting, excavation skills, recording, auguring, post-excavation, finds identification, historic building recording, digitisation and more. It offers something for everyone, whether you're a keen digger or are especially interested in historic buildings, geophysics or finds and post-excavation.
There are lots of ways of joining We Dig the Castle as a trainee, ranging from a 1 or 2 day taster session to a 2 week training place.
We're also pleased to be bringing back our variety of discounts, with reductions available for under-18s*, students, return trainees, and people who have volunteered with Trent & Peak Archaeology or its community partners (* ages 14-16 must attend with an adult aged 18-plus).
Runs weekdays, Monday 16 July - Friday 17 August (9.30am-4.30pm)
Booking opens early March 2018
