Local photographer David Severn has been looking at ex mining communities in North Nottinghamshire and North East Derbyshire, focusing on culture and social life in the coalfields. A long-running project, he's now extended the series and has treated us to a selection of the work. Enjoy duck...

Thoresby Colliery was the last coal mine in Nottinghamshire and closed in 2015.

The Thoresby Colliery portraits were commissioned by New York Times, other images in the series were commissioned by First Art, an arts organisation focussed on bringing cultural experiences to North Nottinghamshire and North East Derbyshire.
