Anyone happening to wander into Rescue Rooms of a Thursday night over the last three years would have been confronted by a wonderful sight (and sound). The Vinyl Countdown, two DJs on a mission to play the “greatest tunes of all time” from the last 60 years, would be doing just that; going back-to-back through the decades, bravely fending off and adhering to drunken requests for “that KC and the Sunshine band one”, or “that one about the balloons”, or “anything by Rick James” (sorry guys).

With no genre left unspun, and a seemingly bottomless box of 45s and LPs, Sam “Solid Steel” Joynes and Carl “Plastic Tornado” Thomas provide a continuous stream of floor-filling classics until the lights come on at 3am, when you have to go and wake up your mate Dave who’s asleep face down on one of the tables with a half-drunk pint still clutched in a vice-like grip.

At the end of this month, the deck-defying duo are celebrating the end of their third year of existence with a mammoth 26 hour marathon set, stretching from Thursday 30th June to Saturday 1st July (well, the early hours of Sunday), with each night going from 9.30pm until the customary 3am.

“Expect hits piled on top of hits with an icing of hits sprinkled with hundreds and thousands of hits topped with three hit candles”, Joynes promises. “Plus I’m bound to get up on the bar at some point and sing along to ballads.”

Not that this isn’t worthy enough of your attendance, but the whole event is in aid of a selection of men’s health charities, with donations being taken at Just Giving. “We're big fans of Movember and have hosted events for the past 3 years”, says Joynes of the chosen cause. “It’s for a great cause (prostate & testicular cancer) and something that doesn't get much mention in the media - men’s health in general doesn't. Although a big fan of Movember we believe that this is important enough to be mentioned every month of the year - a moustache is for life not just Movember! It may be that men in general don't like to accept things or just that it's not seen as being important...It's time to change this.”

Even if you can’t make the event itself, you can watch your money being earned live on The Vinyl Countdown Ustream channel, with all 26 sweaty, funky, and love-filled hours streamed directly into your computer.

“Come along & support us on Thursday 30th June, or if you can’t make it watch us online. It’ll be a hit-packed 26 hours of fun for a great cause....”
