LeftLion's 10th Birthday Blow-Out

We kick off a month of birthday celebrations with a massive gig at The Corner this Friday

LeftLion's 10th Birthday Blow-Out

Can you believe it? LeftLion is approaching it's tenth birthday. Our official birthday is actually on Sunday 1 September this year, which is ten years since this website first went live. But that's just detail for now. So we're kicking off a month of birthday celebrations this weekend with a big party at our magazine launch night Blow-Out.

We've got a humongous line-up for you over two stages, so dust off your party poppers, take a deep breath and get ready to blow out the candles with us!

INDOOR STAGE

SPECIAL MYSTERY GUEST

We have to be a bit secretive about our headliner for this event. All we can say is that he's a massive draw and is used to playing much bigger gigs than this, he tours internationally and he's from Nottingham. And that if we wanted to name him on the posters and flyers then we'd have to pay him a lot more for this gig than we are doing. But thankfully he loves LeftLion and wants to party with us.

THE AFTERDARK MOVEMENT

Winners of the 2012 Future Sound of Nottingham contest, ADM are a fusion of hip-hop and all kinds of other styles. They've played The Wireless Festival and Splendour. Now we've got them in The Corner for a set.

THE ELEMENTZ AND FRIENDS LIVE

Longtime LeftLion favourites The Elementz join in the birthday celebrations with a rare live set from the Elementz featuring the mad skills of Karizma (see video above), Esther Van Leuven, Ski and Frazer Lowrie Music. A rare chance to see this supergroup ripping up the stage!

CAPPO

Cappo has been spitting lyrics in Nottingham for longer than LeftLion has existed. In that time he's worked with everyone from Styly Cee to Scorzayzee - and he spent the best part of a year touring the world as the main emcee for The Herbaliser. His new album G3T OUT (with longtime collaborator The Theorist) has just dropped, so you can expect some tracks from that on the night too.

ACOUSTIC STAGE

GALLERY 47

Headlining our acoustic stage we have Gallery 47, one of the greatest singer-songwriters our fair city has ever produced and one of the nicest gents you will ever meet. Returning from a jam packed Summer which included performances at Blissfields Festival and Dot To Dot Festival, Gallery 47 is a sensitive and witty acoustic troubadour and is certainly not to be missed!

"Beautiful balledry that takes it back to basics. Taking cues from the greats like Nick Drake and Bob Dylan, Jack Peachey serves up evocative lyrics and gorgeous melodies glistening with yearning. Completely lovely." - NUSIC

SAM JONES

Sam Jones also appears on our acoustic stage, fresh from the Nottingham Splendour Festival and coming runner up at this year's Nusic.org.uk - 100% New, Notts Music Future Sound Of Nottingham Final!

"It may only be one lad up there, but Sam and his lungs of steel create a beautifully rich sound that has an unmistakable air of Frank Turner surrounding it. There is such an unrestrained, raw passion to his performance – from the grit in his voice to his ferocious strikes at his guitar." - NUSIC

JOHN MARRIOTT

A favourite of LeftLion's Literature Editor, John Marriott fuses poetry and acoustic songwriting like a cross between Billy Bragg and Andrew Motion.

RAPHAEL ACHACHE

When he's not helping to design LeftLion Magazine, our boy Raph can either be found playing acoustic guitar in places like T1LT or very loud guitar in bands like Arse Full Of Chips and We Are Avengers. We thought we'd get him in for a set to kick everything off.

Your compere for the evening will be Jason Loftus of Trent Sound Limited's show "Nottingham Lace!"

Tickets are £5 on the door!
