Mary Howitt is celebrated in Issue 13 of Dawn of the Unread: Walk into my Parlour. It is written by Booker-shortlisted author Alison Moore and drawn by Corrina Rothwell, a Nottingham-based artist who is best known for her quirky cards that explore cheese eating, bus rage and the art of fannying around. In the above video, Corrina has a natter about her life, being a self-taught artist and how she approached her first ever comic.
It’s thought that Mary Botham Howitt (1799 – 1888) including the works she wrote in collaboration with her husband William, published around 170 books, covering subjects as various as histories of America and Magic, children’s stories and poems, translations of works by Hans Christian Anderson, original novels and a two volume autobiography.
