The Prodigy

Legendary dance pioneers The Prodigy were at the top of their game back in the nineties and with dance acts failing to fill their boots ever since, tonight’s gig was eagerly anticipated – but didn't quite hit the peaks of their past.

Opening with crowd-pleaser Breathe, the night started off on a high, with their first ever number one, Firestarter, arriving surprising early in the set.

The set featured a heavy dose of their new album The Day is My Enemy, which divided the audience into two – one team of crazed, loyal fans bouncing along to every beat and another team that were solely there to relive their nineties.

Wild Frontier, The Day is My Enemy and Nasty receive the best reception in terms of the new album but unstoppable classics such as Everybody in the Place, Smack My Bitch Up and Voodoo People are the ones that take the crowd back to the “good old days”. The Essex group have the crowd eating out of their hands, everyone is on their feet and loving it - although the hefty mosh pits may not be to everyone's taste.

Jason Williamson from Nottingham’s finest Sleaford Mods graces the stage with no introduction in the encore. Jason shouts down the mic in his famous out of tune yet tuneful way during Ibiza, taken from the band’s latest album.

Their Law, Wall of Death and Take Me to the Hospital fill the encore and put the cherry on the cake but the night comes crashing down when the group deliver a steady, exciting climax to the vintage Out of Space before finishing the set 30 seconds in.

The Prodigy were at Capital FM Arena on Tuesday 24 November 2015.
