Nottingham Contemporary has got a new boss in town

Sam Thorne, welcome to Notts!

Artistic Director, Alex Farquharson, has been offered the chance to take over as the Artistic Director of the Tate Britain, down in the Big Smoke. Basically, he’s bagged the golden ticket of the art world. Big up our kid. We’re over the blinkin’ moon for yer.

But hang on a minute – what fate belies our beloved Contemporary, if the main man in charge is packing up his kit bag and leaving town?

Fear not, good people of Nottingham, for a new guy is in town, with all the tools to take our gallery to new heights; beguiling you with wondrous works of art from near and far.

Sam Thorne is the man for the job, and he’ll be taking over at the beginning of next year.

Currently the Artistic Director of Tate St Ives, Mr Thorne has contributed no end to the art world: opening a free to attend art school in East London. That must mean he’s right up for bringing art to the community. And we’re right up for that. So we’re pretty buzzin’ to have him here with us.

Welcome to Notts, Sammy boy.

We have a favour to ask

LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
