Who are the Travelling Gastronomers?
We're Liz and Ali - we met working as Event Managers in London, which led to us being friends. The idea of Travelling Gastronomers was born after one too many drinks on a Friday night, the following week we were sat down and plotting how we could make it work. Our key incentives are our love of food and a drive to bring the street food scene out of London and back to our home towns.

What’s been your best street food experience outside of the UK?
Ali: I went to Lisbon last year for my thirtieth and loved the Time Out Mercado da Ribeira, which is a beautiful covered market in a stunning old building. The site has always been a market but it now houses a host of local restaurants and producers. It has a great bustling atmosphere and amazing food and even better plenty of port all under one roof.
Liz: I love the way different countries represent different ways of eating, for example I loved all the fresh fruit stalls making smoothies in Sydney. It was so easy to pretend you were a yoga loving Aussie when you're surrounded by colourful fruit stalls. Drinking them in the sun on the beach tastes much better than during a rainy commute in London.

How did you decide on Sneinton Market for the location?
Sneinton Market came about as a location after Liz was chatting to a friend, Dan, about Travelling Gastronomers. Dan used to live in London and had just moved back to his home town of Leicester and was working in Nottingham. He really missed the London street food scene and suggested Sneinton Market as a location as he'd already been talking to local traders in the area. Liz is also a big fan of the city after working at the Nottingham Playhouse while studying Art Management at Leicester.

Have you had support from the Creative Quarter?
They were our first port of call when we started looking at options in Nottingham, they put us in touch with Wendy and Brian who manage the market as Sneinton Community Traders. They have been really great and welcoming, they have offered us lots of advice and support. It's lovely to see how much the market and the history of the space means to them. We hope we can bring it back to its former glory filling the space with local traders and customers.

Are there things to keep kids entertained?
The market will be set up to look colourful and vibrant with seating available for families to take time and enjoy the offerings. It's a perfect place to get children trying new foods in a fun and exciting atmosphere. There will also be some healthy treats too.

Can you get a beer?
Absolutely, it has been really hard tasting everything to guarantee we get the best brews on the bar. We will be stocking beers from the lovely guys at Magpie Brewery and cider from Blue Barrel and if that's not your tipple there will also be a selection of wines and soft drinks.

What will be the vibe with the music?
There will be chilled out tunes from local live acoustic acts that will be announced nearer the time.

Obviously it’ll be a glorious day but what if it rains?
In true British style we will be there come rain or shine - with the gastronomic delights we have on offer you won't want to miss out. We have creamed pops to cool you down or spicy curry to warm you up, or you can just take refuge at the bar if a spring shower strikes.
