5 Live Sleaford Mods Performances Worth Watching

Tuesday 01 November 2016
reading time: min, words

Ahead of their two-night stand at the spiritual home of Nottingham music, Rock City, we get ourselves in the mood by looking at five great examples of why the duo make most bands look like a bunch of choir singers by comparison...

Record Store Day at Rough Trade West, 2014
What should have been an enjoyable in-store performance turns in to something altogether more darker and angrier when a member of the public tries to grab the microphone from Williamson at the start of the song.

Later… With Jools Holland
Rumour was that the nation’s gobbiest truth bombers weren’t deemed suitable enough for the late-night music show, but they showed that there’s not only room but a need for their minimalist post-punk among the indie-bedwetters and boogie-woogie piano. Jaws around the country were collectively dropped.

Glastonbury Festival 2015
2015 was the year the country really took notice of the Mods’ barbed spiel, perhaps looking for someone able to vocalise their frustration and anger as the prospect of five more years of Tory rule hovered in to view.

Supersonic Festival 2014
Frontman and chief agitator Jason Williamson amps it up, revelling in front of an enthusiastic crowd, gurning and twitching his way through a late-night set in the year Sleaford Mods finally started to kick up a fuss nationally.

Le Guess Who? 2014
You will notice these videos are from the past couple of years, which goes to show how the band’s profile has spiked since the release of Austerity Dogs. Ever the forward thinkers, it was Northern European cousins that really took Sleaford Mods to their heart ahead before the band made gains on home territory.
