I'm Not From London brought their Nightfish night to The Southbank City Bar and, since it was free, we headed down to see what was going on...

Unfortunately, I missed the opening two acts, Benjamin Ziec & The Rarebreeds and Junction25, owing to being at the cricket at Trent bridge. It was a shame as the blurb about them on the Facebook event page had sounded good and I would have liked to have seen them both. Ah well, I'll just have to try and catch them another time.

I did get there in time to see The Colliders though, a four-piece from Hucknall (not to be confused with the three-piece from Rockville, Maryland of the same name) They have a real Arctic Monkeys feel to them, which is emphasised by the fact that they cover I Bet That You Look Good On The Dance Floor as the second song in their set. It lacks the original versions backing vocals but the drummer, Fraser, adds some interesting snare fills.

It's the first of three covers in the set as they also turn their hands to Cigarettes & Alcohol by Oasis, for which frontman Tommy's vocals don't quite match the sneering swagger of Liam Gallagher but are just on the wrong side of shouty, and A Certain Romance by Arctic Monkeys.

As for their original material, at their worst, such as on It Looks So Suspicious, they sound like The Pigeon Detectives or one of those awful early noughties landfill indie bands. It's not helped by the lack of backing vocals, which means that the chorus is shouted rather than having someone else join in and thickening the sound naturally. Even ADT would have sounded better. At their best, such as set-closer Patrick, they really do channel the Monkeys and sound really good.
