How would you describe your music?
I'd describe my music as singer-songwriter acoustic. I like a lot of genres, I'm just not good at incorporating them into my songs most of the time.

What was your reaction to the news you’d be playing the FSN final?
I was so scared to actually listen to the podcast and find out. The votes had been so close before they'd gone blind, so I had no idea how it was going to turn out. As soon as I did, I lost it completely; me and my best friend were going crazy over the news. It was so surreal.

What can the Rock City crowd expect from your performance?
I'm gonna have to say intensity. I try to make my performances as powerful as I can, meaning I have to notch up my voice and guitar playing seeing as I don't have a band to support the sound. On another note, don't expect any really upbeat songs, I find them very difficult to write.

Why did you enter FSN?
I won a prize from the Noise of the Next Generation competition that allowed me automatic entry into the semi-finals of FSN. Which was a big help considering round one is so difficult.

Who are your biggest musical influences?
Oh man, where do I begin? I love Ben Howard and Matt Corby, the tone and atmosphere of their songs are very influential to me. In terms of vocals and performance, it's gotta be Florence Welch and Jeff Buckley. They put forth everything they possibly can; emotion, power and ability. They’re phenomenal.

What Nottingham artists are you loving at the minute?
Last years winners, Super Furniture, are a band I really like. They're very quirky and energetic, which is great to see live. I also like Daisy Godfrey and Sunflower Thieves, they're both very soulful and soothing.

What are you biggest non-musical influences?
Probably the weather. I like – and also hate – how erratic the weather here can be. One minute it's tumbling down with rain, and then it's rainbows and blue sky. The weather will generally dictate what sort of song I'm likely to write in that time. I tend to write more depressing songs in winter when it's always overcast and cold, obviously. I like the sun, but it doesn't like me.

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
This is definitely the highlight so far. I never even thought I'd get so far with Noise from the Next Generation and I here I am preparing to perform on the main stage at Rock City? It's mental. I guess it means I need to stop doubting myself as much as I do because I've proven myself wrong quite a few times thus far. I can only thank everyone who has supported me because I wouldn't be in this position without them.
