Malt Cross Festival 2017

One of the city’s best loved music venues is celebrating it’s 140th birthday this weekend, and we can’t bleddy wait. The Malt Cross opened its doors in 1877, and has been showcasing the best in local live music ever since. Now, there’s only one way to celebrate a milestone like this; a weekend long festival. We’re talking local music talent from the likes of Roe Green, Sawyer and Thomas Truax, buzzing record spinners DJ Plates, Stiff Kittens and DJ Hemulen Soundz, and all the craft beer you could wish for. Friday and Saturday will see all this, plus a street food menu full of foodie treats, and Sunday will chill things out a bit with Jazz Jam’s monthly session from the house band and special guest guitarist Nik Svarc. Phew, it’s gonna be a busy one. See you all there.

Halloween in Old Market Square

If there’s one thing we know about gud owd Notts is that Old Market Square will always provide the goods when it comes to festivities throughout the year. It’s the first place to jump on the bandwagon for any major event: ice rink at Christmas, a beach in the summer, curry market during Diwali. It ain’t a bad thing either; it’s nice to have a constant in our lives. And things will be no different this weekend, when the square will be bustling with Halloween activities and entertainment for the whole family. Yer can visit a Halloween market, join a pumpkin carving class and listening in on some spooky stories, or if you’re feeling extra brave, tek a quick ride on Britain’s biggest ghost train. Oo-er. Go get stuck in.

The night will be full of Disney anthems, spooky treats, random goodie giveaways and plenty of beer, and they’ll be scouring the room to award a prize for the best costume. Are you gonna be a sweet looking Peter Pan, Simba or Cinderella? Or are you gonna terrify the kids as Captain Hook, Scar or the evil Queen? It’s up ta you. But one thing is certain; this is the perfect kinda Halloween bash if you’re looking to avoid creepy looking clowns or you can’t afford that Disneyland trip that your girl keeps begging you for.
