Our wonderful city is famed for many things, from lace making and Nottingham Castle to Sherwood Forest and Robin Hood. But veganism? Not so much. Then again, perhaps it’s time for a re-think. Veganism is a movement that is rapidly growing in the UK, with those who follow a vegan diet omitting all animal products from their diet. But it doesn't mean not being able to enjoy eating out – this city is bursting with restaurants that tempt veggies and meat-eaters alike...

Annie’s Burger Shack
Yes, you read that right! Annie’s Burger Shack, Nottingham’s best burger restaurant does vegan burgers. In fact, any of their burgers can be modified to suit a vegan diet. And as if that wasn’t amazing enough, they also do dairy-free milkshakes too. Add the lively, up-beat atmosphere to the mix and you’ve got yourself the perfect place to enjoy a meal out with friends. Make sure you book a table in advance though because they are very popular.

The Peacock
When you think of pub-grub, you definitely don’t think vegan food. But, The Peacock might just change your mind with its 100% vegan menu. Offering all the usual suspects from fish and chips and pies, to battered sausage and a full English, this is the perfect place to take your meat eating friends who will be totally blown away by how amazing vegan food is. You can treat yourself to a delicious, homemade cake or dessert while you’re there, too!

Pudding Pantry
While a number of dessert restaurants have opened up in Nottingham recently, The Pudding Pantry is by far one of, if not the, most popular. While none of their puddings are vegan (and I’m patiently waiting for this to change), they have a number of brunch and lunch options that are not to be missed including a Thai broth, butterbean and aubergine bruschetta, a satay vegetable sarnie and, wait for it… vegan banana and walnut bread.

Alley Café
Tucked away down a little alley off Angel Row, this popular veggie hangout also offers a load great vegan options. They have an array of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner so whatever time of day you’re heading into town, Alley Café has you covered. They also serve vegan cheesecake, ice cream and cake. What more could you possibly want? A beer or a cocktail? No problem, they have those too.

Zizzi
The well known Italian chain restaurant is a popular eatery in Notts, and it now offers a number of vegan options to indulge in. It’s great to see more and more large restaurants offering vegan dishes and you’ll certainly be spoilt for choice at Zizzi. Whether you fancy a pasta dish, a salad or even creating your own pizza, you’ll be sure to find something that tickles those taste buds. Room for dessert? Who are we kidding, there’s always room for dessert! Especially when there’s a sweet calzone on the menu...
