Pint of Science Launch
No matter what you told yer ma when you were throwing a foot-stamping strop at 22 years old, yer don’t know everything. Every expert had to begin somewhere, and it’s never too late; even if your school years are a distant memory. Pint of Science is a much more fun way of learning abaht all things sciency, from human bones and the galaxy to learning how to measure your alcohol at home. While the fest doesn’t properly begin until mid May, the official launch takes place at the Waterfront with talks from four different brainiacs. We’ll be down the front tekkin notes.

Easter Holiday Workshops: Fun Dance
Kids are always so full of beans, aren’t they? It’s no wonder parents come to dread half term, as they’ve gorra find ways to entertain the screaming sprogs for a whole week. The New Art Exchange are tekin one for the team of exhausted parents by running workshops that will keep the kiddos nice and entertained. Back by popular demand, this Fun Dance workshop will get ‘em moving and grooving, and get ‘em thinking about different ways to express themsens. The good news is this workshop runs over four sessions, so by the end of it they’ll be too tired to give you any more lip; they’ll be straight to bed instead.

Dancing On Ice Live
We’ve always liked Torvill and Dean here at the ‘Lion. We look back on our 2014 interview with fondness.. and it makes us slightly smug knowing it’s one of the only places they’ve admitted to a bit of puppy love. The dynamic duo are back in their hometown this week for the Dancing On Ice Live tour, where you’ll have the chance to see them skate together for the first time in four years; we’ve been promised a very special performance, too. Winner of the latest series, Jake Quickenden, will be joined on the rink by contestants Max Evans, Donna Air, Alex Beresford, Cheryl Baker and Ray Quinn for some breathtaking performances and an all round good time.

Charity Concert
Owd Boots Folk Music Club are hosting a special charity concert this week to offer their support two local charities; Bridges Community Trust and Switch Up. They’ve roped in the help of musician Michael Keane and the Trent Navigation Shanty Crew to help ‘em raise some dollar for a building fund; they’re hoping a complete refurbishment of the Life centre Methodist church in the Meadows will then mek a permanent home for both organisations. They’ll be drinks, a raffle and an appearance from guest speaker Marcellus Baz. Get behind yer local good’uns.

Eric Bibb + Rob Green
Come one, come all to Rescue Rooms for a performance by acoustic blues legend Eric Bibb. Since his first album in 1972, Eric has released 35 albums and has enjoyed a non-stop touring career spanning five decades, so the poor bloke is probably bleddy exhausted. But he wouldn’t do it if he didn’t love it, an’ all that work has made him one of the leading bluesmen of his generation. Support from the night is coming from epic soul man and our dear friend Rob Green, so we reckon it’s a gig not ta miss.
