Knot of the Heart

When? Tuesday 23 October, 7.30pm
Where? Lace Market Theatre
What? If you feel like life’s got a bit slow as we enter winter and you need a bit of (healthy) drama in your life, go check out Knot of the Heart at Lace Market Theatre. The play takes you on a journey through drug addiction, recovery, and broken relationships, with the story following a children’s TV presenter who’s been balancing a heroin addiction with a lovelife and a career. When she gets caught chasing the dragon, it goes a bit downhill for her. Not for the faint hearted.

BCUC + Truth & Lies Music DJs

When? Wednesday 24 October, 7.30pm
Where? Metronome
What? Hailing all the way from Soweto, South Africa, BCUC are in Notts to provide the “africangungungu” sounds to Metronome. Their own brand of “afro-psychedelic” music mixes together a distinctly South-African style with jazz sounds from the seventies and eighties, hip-hop influences and punk-rock energy in a fusion that’s constantly shape-shifting. Gilles Peterson called them “without doubt the best live act” he’d seen in 2017, and Gilles knows his stuff. You’ll be kicking yersen if you miss this one out.

Ruby Wax, The Monk and the Neuroscientist: How to be Human

When? Wednesday 24 October, 7.30pm
Where?
Nottingham Playhouse
What?
What does it mean to be human? Ruby Wax recently proclaimed she knows the answer, and seeing as philosophers like Descartes couldn’t figure that one out, that’s a pretty impressive feat, and reason enough to go check out How to be Human this week. She’s also got the monk Gelong Thubten explaining how the mind works, and neuroscientist Ash Ranpura explaining the science-y bit. It’s time to upgrade your mind duckeh.
