Starting us off are local two-piece Putamen featuring just guitar/vocals & bass with everything else played via laptop. Musically it's somewhere between the 80s Matchbox B-line Disaster and the actual '80s. It's post punk meets new romantics; Joy Division meets OMD meets Human League. It would be perfect for the soundtrack form remake of The Breakfast Club.

In these post White Stripes times, the musical duo has flourished - Royal Blood and Slaves have been massive. Added to that list are Nottingham’s Black Shiver. They have more than a hint of Royal Blood about them but with a guitar rather than a bass, while the song LA Baby sounds like The Vines. They close with If Looks Could Kill, which they dedicate to their biggest fan Sam for his birthday.

Highlight of the night are The Dee Vees from Manchester. It’s garage rock with a hint of Definitely Maybe album tracks (although not Digsy’s Dinner, obviously) There’s driving rock, but not the rock your dad listens to while driving, more of a ‘70s dark blues kind of thing. For the final song, the front man casts off his guitar and starts pulling some angular shapes and what could be better than that?

Fuzzbox will return soon
