Future Sound of Nottingham 2019 Finalists: Desensitised

1 July 19 words: Nusic

This weekend sees the return of Nusic's Future Sound of Nottingham, where local acts take to the stage at Rock City to battle it out for a slot at Splendour Festival. Meet Desensitised, one of this year's finalists...

How would you describe your music?
We play rock music inspired by pop-punk and grunge. We are known for our catchy choruses, badass riffs and the diversity of our songs, which range from heavy rock anthems to acoustic ballads.

What was your reaction to the news you’d be playing the FSN final?
We were absolutely ecstatic! We worked so hard to promote our band during the voting process, so to make it through to the finals was an incredible feeling. Rock City has always been a special venue to us where we have watched so many of our favourite bands, so to play the main stage will be monumental to us.

What can the city crowd expect from your performance?
A high-octane, energetic live show with dirty guitars, strong beats and soaring vocals.

Why did you enter FSN?
We have always wanted to play the Future Sound of Nottingham competition, so to have made it through to the finals this year means a lot to us. We feel that now is the right time for us as we are so excited about our new songs and want to share them with the world.

Who are your musical influences?
As band members we each have our individual influences. Bands that have inspired us include Halestorm, Hole, Green Day, Sum 41, Blink 182 and Biffy Clyro.

What Nottingham artists are you loving at the minute?
We are lucky to have so many talented musicians in Nottingham. The DandyLions, You Want Fox, Crosslight, Minatore and Marty are just a few Nottingham-based bands who we love, so check out their music!

What are your biggest non-musical influences?
We are inspired by writers and poets, we love to read and write stories as well as songs. These include Angela Carter, Diana Gabaldon, the Bronte sisters and Margaret Atwood.

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
The biggest highlight for us has been releasing our new album Sister Psychosis. We’ve worked hard to make this album, we are so happy with it and the response we have received since its release has been amazing. Our album launch was on the Rock City Beta stage and it was the best gig we have ever played.

Any last words for LeftLion?
Thanks for taking the time to chat to us. We have a special new release coming soon so watch this space for more Desensitised surprises!
