Future Sound of Nottingham 2019 Finalists: Mollie Ralph

29 June 19 words: Nusic

This weekend sees the return of Nusic's Future Sound of Nottingham, where local acts take to the stage at Rock City to battle it out for a slot at Splendour Festival. Meet the first of your 2019 finalists, Mollie Ralph...

How would you describe your music?
Soulful and passionate!

What was your reaction to the news you’d be playing the FSN final?
I was ecstatic, after getting track of the week on BBC Nottingham for Give it Up in May, getting fast tracked to the FSN final was like the cherry on the cake!

What can the city crowd expect from your performance?
Expect infectious melodies and a flawless performance from my talented band (now including a brass section and backing vocalists – woo!).

Why did you enter FSN?
I entered it as a bit of a dare actually. A mate told me to be more ‘rock and roll’, so I thought why bloody not!

Who are your musical influences?
My music is heavily influenced by the likes of Norah Jones and Amy Winehouse. The arrangement and huge production these artists create are bewildering, embodying that kind of energy is so what I’m all about.

What Nottingham artists are you loving at the minute?

What are your biggest non-musical influences?
Nature, wildlife. That sort of stuff.

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
Supporting Gipsy Kings to a sold-out Royal Concert Hall, for sure.

Any last words for LeftLion?
Thank you for supporting Notts music, you gems. xo
