Oxjam is a national charity festival that takes over different towns in the UK every year, for twelve hours of music and community spirit, all in aid of Oxfam GB. Our very own Beeston is one of those towns, and this annual event is a wholesome yet fun filled way in which they raise money for a worthwhile cause…

Oxjam has been an annual festival for eight years now, with the Beeston Takeover in particular raising over £110,000 over the course of those eight years. This is most certainly something to be proud of, as it is the first town to raise six figures from their Oxjam events.

This year, the Oxjam Beeston Takeover will take place on Saturday 19th October, with more than a few highlights to look out for. A local band formed during their time at the University of Nottingham, known as ‘The Branflakes’, will be returning to their roots and performing this year, as one of the hundred and twenty acts due to perform across sixteen different stages. The array of music stretches across many genres; from rock to soul, jazz to reggae, DJ’s to community choirs, there is something for everyone.

Oxjam Beeston is also the pinnacle of community spirit. A small team of volunteers work together tirelessly for months before the event. There are approximately a hundred more volunteers on the day, all of which make this a day to remember. With each year the event is more spectacular and heart-warming. It is ever expanding, and this year is predicted to be the biggest, best yet. Local venues are always very supportive, with this year’s sponsor being The Star Inn. Here you will find, not one, but two headline stages!

Entrance to all venues is free before 6pm, after which wristbands are required. Advance tickets are available for just £10 and can be exchanged for wristbands on the day. If you’d like to buy a ticket on the door, these are available for £12. The event usually sells out before the day, so get your tickets early to avoid disappointment.
