Preview: IMAX Film Festival at Cineworld

17 February 20

The IMAX Film Festival is heading to Cineworld Nottingham, offering you the chance to see of 2019's most popular films on the biggest of screens...

Whether you missed them first time around, or just fancy seeing them in all their IMAX glory, Cineworld Nottingham is offering you the chance to see four blockbuster films from 2019 as part of the fifth annual IMAX Film Festival. For one day, the Cornerhouse cinema venue is hosting The Lion King, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Joker, and tickets are only £3 each.

For the uninitiated, IMAX offers viewers the world's most innovative, immersive cinema-going experience, screening films on a floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall screen with a powerful digital sound system. In short, IMAX is designed to replicate the feeling of actually being in the film, without the fear of Thanos, a wild hyena or a smiling sociopath giving you trouble.

Here's what you can see on Saturday 22 February...

The Lion King (2019)

Director: Jon Favreau
Starring: Donald Glover, Beyoncé, Seth Rogen
Running time: 118 mins

Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny on the plains of Africa. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub's arrival. Scar, Mufasa's brother -- and former heir to the throne -- has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is soon ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba's exile. Now, with help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba must figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.

Did you know: Director Jon Favreau revealed that there are 1,490 rendered shots created by animators and CG artists, and only one live-action shot that was photographed in Africa.

Avengers: Endgame (2019)

Director: Anthony and Joe Russo
Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo
Running time: 181 mins

After Thanos, an intergalactic warlord, disintegrates half of the universe, the Avengers must reunite and assemble again to reinvigorate their trounced allies and restore balance.

Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)

Director: Jon Watts
Starring: Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Jake Gyllenhaal
Running time: 129 mins

As Spider-Man, a beloved superhero, Peter Parker faces four destructive elemental monsters while on holiday in Europe. Soon, he receives help from Mysterio, a fellow hero with mysterious origins.

Joker (2019)

Director: Todd Phillips
Starring: Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz
Running time: 122 mins

Forever alone in a crowd, failed comedian Arthur Fleck seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur wears two masks -- the one he paints for his day job as a clown, and the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel like he's part of the world around him. Isolated, bullied and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker.

Did you know: Joker was the first R-rated movie in history to make $1 billion dollars.
