Film Hub Midlands is inviting aspiring filmmakers in Nottingham to apply for its Creative Producers School, which aims to discover and promote the next generation of talent in the Midlands and the North.

The Creative Producers programme will aim to support eight early-career producers with training and networking free of charge, giving them the skills and experience to craft a successful career in the local film industry.

Delivered by Diploid Productions’ Holly Carrington and Redbag Pictures’ Paul Robinson, students will develop their understanding of script editing, contracting, budgeting, casting, scheduling, and festival strategy. There will also be the chance to hear from other industry experts and guest speakers, who will share their specialist knowledge on a range of different topics.

Carrie Blake, Talent Coordinator for BFI Network Midlands, says: “This is perfect for emerging producers who are at the point where they want to develop further within their practice. If you are looking for the next step to build and hone your skills, this will introduce you to key aspects of the production process and give you a solid foundation in all practical aspects of managing a production.”

Applications for the School are open until 5pm on Friday 24 July, and participants must:

  • Be over 18
  • Not be in full time education
  • Have produced one short film or theatre piece as a Producer or Production Manager, or have an equivalent level of experience across other production roles (eg. Runner, Assistant Director etc.)
  • Attend all of the dates outlined in the draft Course Schedule

Based at Nottingham’s own Broadway Cinema, Film Hub Midlands are a partner of the BFI Network and also aid filmmakers with early development and short film funding, professional development opportunities, and information about the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on the screen industry.
