Featuring recruits from Nottingham Girls’ High School, Nottingham young actors training group The Television Workshop, and not-for-profit organisation Cultural Vibrations, the six teens – aka the Young Hustlers – have been working on a number of exciting projects and events since their conception at the end of last year. They are Poppy Parkinson, Ruby Jo Williams, Narisse Poynton, Felix Findley, Karis-Cyanne McFarlane and Eniola-Isabella Falade.

Meeting up regularly via video call, the teens have been working on a podcast where they share their thoughts on a range of topics from mental health, to racial injustice and the Black Lives Matter movement, to more trivial discussions about music, sweet flavours, life in lockdown and Netflix recommendations.

16-year-old Young Hustler Poppy Parkinson says: “The best part about being a Young Hustler is gaining insight into other people’s views and opinions. It has been really eye-opening listening to people coming from different perspectives.”

The youngsters will also be taking over the Young Hustlers Facebook, Twitter and Instagram channels for the entire month of August. Promising lots of new and interesting content, the group will be posting about a range of different topics, including petitions and interactive polls seeking people’s opinions on different talking points.

14-year-old Young Hustler Eniola-Isabella Falade says: “For the social media takeover, I’m personally looking forward to sharing my opinion on black, LGBTQ issues and the representation of people of colour within the media.”

It’s definitely going to be worth keeping your peepers on their socials for a refreshing take on the world today – after all, the children are our future.
