Nottingham's annual music festival at Wollaton Park has been cancelled due to coronavirus, but a 2021 date has been announced.

This year’s festival was due to take place on Saturday 18 July, featuring rock icons Supergrass and James, alongside legends Rick Astley and Belinda Carlisle. The festival’s renowned support for local acts would have brought a host of Nottingham talent to stages across the park, with Amber Run and Tori Shead already confirmed.

Splendour has taken place every year since 2008, born through a partnership between DHP Family and Nottingham City Council set on bringing international artists to Nottingham while showcasing local talent. The festival has since gone from strength to strength, attracting 25,000 people annually to Wollaton Park’s rolling hills.

In a statement announcing this year’s postponement, the organisers said: “Throughout these difficult months, we've been cautiously optimistic about Splendour Festival going ahead as planned. However, it is now clear that we cannot go ahead, and so have made the heart-breaking decision to postpone this year's event for the first time in our 12 year history.

If you already have a ticket for this year's event we'd urge you to hold on to your ticket, which will be valid for 2021's festival. This helps to support Splendour and all the fantastic musicians who play at it. We'll be counting down the days and are already looking forward to having a huge party with you! We understand you'll have a lot of questions, please rest assured your ticket provider will be in contact shortly with full details.”

The date for the 2021 festival has been set as Saturday 24 July 2021.

Other Nottingham events and festivals that have been postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak include Download Festival at Donington Park, sci-fi convention Em-Con at Nottingham Arena (originally scheduled for 2-3 May, but now moved to 18-19 July), Nottingham Craft Beer Festival at Sneinton Avenues (originally 12-13 June, but now moved to 21-22 August) and Wigflex City Festival (originally Fri 9 May and now Saturday 10 October 2020).
