Notts Improv Duo The Clones Return to the Stage

13 August 21 words: George White

Lloydie James Lloyd and Liam Webber will take over Fishergate Point as part of this year's Edinburgh Fringe. Yes, you read that right...

Popular improv act The Clones will take to the stage next week as Edinburgh Fringe broadcasts live from Nottingham for comedy fans around the world.

For the first time ever, the Scottish capital's famous festival will feature online shows, and our city's own Lloydie James Lloyd and Liam Webber will host five completely ad-lib sketch shows throughout next week as part of this unprecedented programme (Monday 16 - Friday 20 August).

Kicking off at 7.15pm each night, these shows will have no script, no staging, and only a pair of chairs for a set - leading to unique comedy plays that are guaranteed to bring laughs and surprises aplenty.

Audience members will get the chance to shape the sketches themselves, with Lloydie and Liam using cues from the crowd to guide their plots, sub-plots and characters.

It's safe to say the former is pretty excited about performing in front of people again, especially as part of such a beloved event. “We are thrilled to bring a two person play to the Fringe every night next week,” Lloydie admits. “What we do is something that is rarely seen in the UK, let alone the East Midlands.

“We mix the theatrical with the comedic to create something that audiences seem to connect with. You get to actually know the characters, and the intimate nature of improv means you sometimes feel like you are part of the action.”

Liam agrees that the unpredictability of the shows is what makes them so enjoyable for both the audience and the pair on stage. “We don’t know what each show is going to be,” he explains. “We have no idea who we are going to play so we are going in with nothing other than ourselves. Anything and everything is used to make a piece of theatre out of thin air.”

Joining the duo for the final couple of shows are two special guests: on Thursday, Leicester’s Ki Shah makes it a proper East Midlands affair, and on Friday, Cambridge-based improviser Jonathan Nguyen will make a special trip to Notts for the night.

Tickets are now available to see The Clones at Fishergate Point.
