Am I eligible?

To be eligible for these placements, you must be:

  • between the ages of 16 and 24
  • Unemployed and registered for Universal Credit (if you are unemployed and not currently registered for Universal Credit you can register here)
  • If you are both of the above please speak to your Job Centre work coach and ask to be referred to this role.

Our apologies to anyone who wants to apply who does not fit the above requirements, but those are the rules of the funding we have been allocated as part of this scheme.

What support will we provide as part of the role?

At LeftLion we have a strong track record of bringing through people as apprentices and staff who have gone on to establish careers in national journalism and international marketing roles. These include people who went on to work at organisations such as; The Guardian, The Boots Company, NME Magazine, Buzzfeed, Reuters, Archant Media and Nottingham Trent University.

As well as job specific training, we will also provide support for you in looking for long-term work after your placement ends (although we’re hopeful of being able to extend some of these placements ourselves). You will be assigned a mentor, a senior member of our team, who you will work with throughout your placement with us. They will help to train you in the systems and software that you will use in this role. We will also provide you with all the equipment that you need.

We have a favour to ask

LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
