5 of the Best Films in Nottingham Cinemas in August 2022

29 July 22 words: Charlotte Tomlinson

Everything from old-school classics to brand-new blockbusters are hitting our screens this summer...

Robocop

An absolute cult phenomenon, the original Robocop is back on our cinema screens 35 years later - but this time bigger and better than ever. Watch this dystopian sci-fi action at Cineworld in 4K, uncut in a way you’ve never seen before. Peter Weller as a cyborg cop with tons of classic eighties special effects you never get tired of - what’s not to love?

Robocop: The Director’s Cut is showing at Cineworld (Cornerhouse) on Tuesday 2 August

Bullet Train

Hugely anticipated and hopefully worth the wait - a star-studded cast including Brad Pitt, Sandra Bullock and Aaron Taylor-Johnson take to the screen in this action film where five assassins clash on a Japanese bullet train and soon discover their missions are more closely-related than they thought.

Bullet Train is showing at Cineworld, Showcase and Savoy from Wednesday 3 August

Nope

The latest from the mind of Jordan Peele, a director who has redefined 21st century horror with previous releases Us and Get Out. Follow OJ, played by Oscar-winner Daniel Kaluuya, and Keke Palmer's Emerald in this sci-fi horror-comedy as they uncover something chilling in the depths of Californian nowhere.

Nope is showing at Cineworld, Showcase and Savoy from Friday 12 August

Rear Window

Transforming their social space into a cosy pop-up cinema with a 100” screen for this classic Hitchcock thriller, this screening is a must-see. Whether it’s your first or tenth time watching, you’re bound to be right on the edge of your seat with this mystery. Watch through the eyes of a wheelchair-bound photographer from his rear window, as he becomes convinced his neighbour has committed murder – with a brilliant performance from the late James Stewart and Hitchcock’s incredible directing, head over to Works Social for an excellent evening out.

Rear Window is showing at Works Social on Thursday 18 August

They Live

As part of Loft Movie Theatre’s upcoming screenings, this Carpenter film will take you back to the eighties as he masters the horror genre once again. WWF wrestler Roddy Piper arrives in Los Angeles, finding a pair of glasses with the power to uncover secrets about the reality of society, including subliminal messages and even a hidden alien race. A satirical commentary on the politics and culture at the time, it still feels just as relevant today.

They Live is showing at Savoy on Monday 29 August, thanks to The Loft Movie Theatre
