Nottinghamshire Pride is returning on Saturday 30 July, promising to bring bigger and better celebrations than ever - with a theme of ‘We See You' aiming to champion the city’s LGBTQ+ community.
Big, bold and bright carnival-themed marching bands, alongside Nottingham Samba Collective, will take to the streets for a parade led by Nottinghamshire Fire Service's iconic fire engine as the festivities kick off in the morning. Join the march by meeting at Listergate at 10am, proceeding to Albert Street and concluding at Broad Street by 12pm.
But don’t worry - the fun doesn’t stop there. Acts will hit up the stage on Heathcoat Street with a DJ set from Charity Shop Sue, performances from singers Jamie Fuxx and Rob Green, and appearances from tribute acts too. Goosegate in Hockley will also host more than forty different stalls for attendees to browse throughout the day.
LeftLion’s own Nadia Whittome, MP for Nottingham East, will be giving a talk alongside other local activists as the city celebrates its LGBTQ+ history for a ninth year.
Chair of Nottinghamshire Pride, Leigh Ellis, has spoken about how they expect this summer’s event to beat last year’s numbers of 9,000 Pride-goers, after 2021's celebrations were scaled back due to the pandemic.
Ellis said: “With this year’s theme, ‘We See You’, we wanted to especially shine a light on all marginalised groups - including trans and non-binary, young and older LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV/AIDs.”
Co-chair, Craig Martin, also spoke on how special the celebrations are to so many people: “For us, the march is one of the most important parts of the day, as it’s a real mark of solidarity for the whole community.”
Currently, organisers are on the hunt for volunteers to act as Pride march stewards, donation collectors and general helpers on the day - and there are plenty of slots available, so be sure to get in touch here if you fancy a fabulous day of helping out the charity.
