Are you a young person? Fancy learning how to skate? Well, that’s no problem with Skate Nottingham’s free skateboarding lessons.

Aiming to build life skills including creativity, respect and teamwork, the local social enterprise Skate Nottingham are collaborating with international charity Concrete Jungle Foundation to become the first organisation in the UK to deliver the ‘Edu-Skate’ programme.

Taking place on Saturday mornings in Nottingham, the Edu-Skate programme has already grown from an initial 15 participants to an almost double amount at 27 since its initial inception in March. Currently taking place at the Brendon Lawrence Sports Centre in St Ann’s, the programme has engaged over sixty young people in total, with half the participants being girls and 60% self identifying as from Black, Asian or other Ethnic Minority backgrounds.

Now moving to King Edward Park from the 18th of June, Skate Nottingham are calling for more participants to take part in sessions which run from 10:30am until 12pm and are completely free of charge. Including free skateboard and helmet hire, the sessions will be run by qualified and DBS checked coaches, and are open to anyone aged 7 or above.

The lessons follow a recent grant from Sport England and the National Lottery’s Queen's Platinum Jubilee programme which co-founder of Skate Nottingham Chris Lawton describes as having “enabled us to give young people a great introduction to skateboarding for free.” Further commenting that “We're blown away by the amazing progress of the young people, both in their skateboarding and their wider development and we can't wait to start delivering life-skills with the awesome partners of the Edu-Skate Worldwide Network.”
