5 Things to do in Nottingham This Week

19 June 22

Nirvana meets Elvis, feminist zines and the Sherwood art week. This week has it all.

ELVANA: Unplugged
When: Monday 20 June, 7pm
Where: Metronome
How Much? £20
Fan of Elvis? Lover of Nirvana? Well, in an unlikely series of events ELVANA is the perfect mixture of the two - self described as ‘the Elvis fronted Nirvana.’ A wacky tribute band to say the least, ELVANA combine grunge rock and fifties flare, finishing it off with the perfect amount of Mr Presley’s glamour. Heading to Metronome this Monday as part of their Unplugged tour, it’s sure to be quite the experience.

Witchful Thinking
When: Wednesday 22 June, 7pm
Where: Five Leaves Bookshop
How Much? £3
Spooky season is over, October a distant memory, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t still plenty of magic in the world. Join Zoë Howe as she presents her new book Witchful Thinking: The Wise Woman’s Handbook for Creating a Charmed Life. A read that will help you harness your inner power, all while schooling you on witchcraft and feminism, it’s the kind of good energy we like.

Femme Fatal Gals
When: Saturday 25 June, 7pm
Where: Rough Trade
How Much? Free
Started by Khaya Job, Femme Fatal Gals is Nottingham’s feminist annual print magazine. But as all good things must come to an end, this week marks Femme Fatal’s last ever edition, which they will be celebrating with one final goodbye party at Rough Trade. A chance to grab all four issues of the magazine and see some great live performances, let’s help them go out with a bang.

A Midsummer Night's Dream
When: Saturday 25 June - Sunday 26 June
Where: DH Lawrence Pavillion
How Much? £12
Mythical forest, mischievous fairies, love at first sight, is there anything more charming than William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream? Taking place on both days this weekend, you can head over to Lakeside for a live outdoor production of Shakespeare’s most whimsical play, featuring direction by Martin Berry. In collaboration with Nottingham Playhouse, it’s sure to be a gooden.

Sherwood Art Week
When: Starting Saturday 25 June
Where: Sherwood Shops
How Much? Free
Organised by volunteers and supported by the local highstreet, Sherwood Art Week is back once again, showcasing the very best local talent. From this Saturday the shops down Mansfield and Haydn road will be transformed temporarily into art galleries for all you lot to enjoy. And there’s an opportunity to get involved in the art too, with a variety of workshops and classes for the general public. A wonderful celebration of a well known artistic area.

We have a favour to ask…

LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots.
